Awards at CCA Annual Meeting

Our members assembled at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan to recognize their outstanding sailors for 2016  at our annual Awards Dinner on March 3, 2017.  

Representing a broad array of sailing achievements, the recipients of the 2016 Blue Water Medal, Rod Stephens Trophy, First-Ever Young Voyager Award, Far Horizons Award, Royal Cruising Club Trophy and Richard S. Nye Trophy were celebrated for their accomplishments. Download the pdf or read on.

2016 Blue Water Medal Awarded to Michael J. Johnson

The CCA presented Michael J. Johnson (Santa Fe, N.M.)with its 2016 Blue Water Medal, established in 1923 to recognize examples of meritorious seamanship and adventure upon the seas.  For more about Johnson and his extensive cruising over 40 years, including 125,000 nautical miles and an east-to-west circumnavigation below the five great southern capes, please click here.

2016 Rod Stephens Trophy for Outstanding Seamanship Awarded to Gavin Reid

The 2016 Rod Stephens Trophy for Outstanding Seamanship was presented to Gavin Reid (Devon, UK) for his selfless action in swimming to a vessel in distress and singlehandedly rescuing one of its crew members trapped at the top of the mast. For more on the rescue, please click here.

Cabot and Heidi Lyman received CCA’s Far Horizons Award for 2016

2016 Far Horizons Award Goes to Cabot and Heidi Lyman

The 2016 Far Horizons Award was presented (in absentia) to Cabot and Heidi Lyman (Cushing, Maine) in recognition of their extensive offshore cruising, which includes their 1987-90 circumnavigation. For more on the Lymans, please click here.

Joe Harris received CCA’s Royal Cruising Club Trophy for 2016
