Our October speaker is Jake Beattie, Executive Director of the Northwest Maritime Center, one of our region’s most dynamic maritime focused institutions.  https://nwmaritime.org/about/

Jake will begin his presentation with a brief overview of the Maritime Center’s current goals and plans for the future, including the new Maritime High School they are helping to create in the Seattle area.  He will then turn to giving us an account of his own blue water cruising experiences in Faroffistan (Philippines).  He calls it “Smart People Doing Dumb Things,” in which he recounts the adventures he and his partner had trying to cruise the Philippines in a outrigger canoe powered by a lawn mower.   It’s a great talk with great photos.  You don’t want to miss this.
