Mallorca Sept 12 – 25 2020
Plans are moving along well for our club cruise in Mallorca Sept 2020. Mags & I were in Palma mid-February where we reviewed event destinations with our ground crew Dawn MacPhee and Helen Whysall. We have worked out the logistics and budgets for the 5 sites where we plan events. Deposits have been placed with vendors and we are on our way.
The weather is pleasant and the water warm (77 degrees) in September. Daily temperatures are in the high 70’s low 80’s. Rainfall in our 2 week period over the last 2 years has averaged 0.6 in. (See attached file to left)
We plan to sail 185 miles around the island counter-clockwise. While winds are generally quite light in September, if anything comes up it will be a Mistral out of the NE. Going C-C has the wind behind us as we go along the North Coast. It also allows us more flexibility for people to visit the Illa de Cabrera nature park early in the event.
The anticipated Agenda is
Saturday 12th – Palma – Opening cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres at 49 Steps a rooftop setting beside the marina where most charter boats will be berthed. It has a beautiful view of the Cathedral, fortress and the Palma waterfront
47 miles Sun / Mon/ Tuesday
- boats can take their time getting out of Palma, then explore south coast and Illa de Cabrera a nature reserve on the South East tip of Mallorca.
Wednesday 16th – Porto Colom – Beach Party – We surveyed the protected harbour and beach where we plan a very casual paella party.
50 miles Thursday / Friday
Saturday 19th – Alcanada – Casual dinner ashore at a La Terraza a beachfront restaurant. Fleet anchored offshore.
35 miles Sun Monday – possible stops

- - Formentor
- - Cala Figuera
Tuesday 22st – Soller - Dock Party at the marina – Food Trucks. Negotiations are underway to determine how many boats can be at the marina. Others will anchor in the protected harbour.

- - Calla de Deya
- - Foradada
- - Dragonera
- - Andraitx
Friday 25th Palma – Closing Dinner – Finca Sa Font Seca – a 17th century country estate about 20 minutes from the marina. Cocktails on the terrace, dinner on a lower terrace or in a churchlike hall depending on the weather.

We have been working closely with Helen and Dawn of Sublime Yacht Charters who come well recommended by friends in Palma. They have created a list of charter opportunities which are available at this link CCA Mallorca Charters
It will be updated as boats are booked and additional listings are added. The standard charter would have you going aboard Saturday 12th and have the boat back in Palma for the party Friday with departure from the boat Saturday 26th. Boats require a 25% deposit with booking, 25% 6 months prior and 50% 1 month before.

For those of you who are on board for the cruise, we are collecting inital deposits of $150 per person. We anticipate the total expense for the cruise including the 5 events to be approximately $700. Registration is via https://cruisingclub.org/2020/mallorca/register .
For those of you interested in participating on a mother ship, we expect to have details of options in September. Ensure you have entered your name in the survey and you can register after we have circulated details.
Several recent club cruises have been restricted in their ability to accommodate members due to a limited supply of boats or constraints from social venues. Within reason, we do not have these issues in Mallorca so this is an opportunity to bring out a larger group of members to participate in what are the defining events of our club. Currently, 34 crews representing ~150 people have signed in to indicate their interest. We can accommodate ~50 boats and ~250 people.
